AFS opposes EPA Greenhouse Regulation.

The American Foundry Society (AFS) sent a letter on May 19 in support of a congressional resolution which opposes regulation of greenhouse gases by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).Fifty-two of the society’s corporate members also signed the letter.
AFS believes the bill that would authorise such regulation, the Clean Air Act (CAA), is an “inefficient and ineffective vehicle” to address climate protection and that Congress solely should address greenhouse gas emissions. EPA’s regulation of greenhouse gas emissions would permit the agency to determine what energy sources will be used and how much energy will be used by whom, without regard to the impact on jobs in the U.S., price of electricity, natural gas and gasoline, economic growth and national security.
“If the U.S. were to take this step unilaterally, the metalcasting industry would be at a severe disadvantage to unregulated foreign competition - particularly from China - further damaging the profitability of U.S. metalcasting facilities and threatening domestic manufacturing,” said Jerry Call, AFS executive vice president.
